Mentors are professional, adult volunteers that help with general club activities.

Coaches are professional, adult volunteers that teach and coach (a) specific team(s).

    Taylor Biel

    Taylor officially joined the club as a mentor in 2025, but has been around for a few years helping work IU games.

    She is an FRC alum, having competed in 2019 with team #5403. She currently works at the Monroe County Hospital and is a full-time biochem student. She plans to eventually receive her doctorate and work somewhere like Eli-Lilly.

  • Tonya Canada

    A robotics mama since 2021, 2025 is her first year mentoring a team.

    She decided to mentor after being inspired by other mentors in the club.

    Misty Chase

    The loving and forgiving wife of our Lead Mentor and a mentor herself.

    Misty loves working with her friend and fellow founding mentor, Leslie, at Needmore Elementary School.

    Nathan Chase

    A FIRST Robotics alum having competed on 2 FRC teams, he now mentors one of the club’s FLL teams.

    Nate is a former Automation Engineer who now works on the assembly line for Cook Medical in Bloomington.

    …is the Lead Mentor, President and Treasurer of the Board, and a founding mentor.

    Tyson is an General Engineering Maintenance Foreman at USG in Shoals where he has worked for over 20 years.

    A founding mentor and also a Speech Pathentologist in Mitchell—who even worked with one of our mentors when he was young.

    Leslie Schmitt...

    …a founding club mentor who gets roped into helping her friend, Misty, with whatever grand idea our Lead Mentor comes up with next.

    She also loves working with her friend at Needmore Elementary School.

    …is a founding mentor and board member.

    He is a Senior Regulatory Reporting Specialist at Cook Medical in Bloomington.

  • Bode Swango...

    …started as a club mentor in 2019 and coaches the FTC teams 19366 (CTF) and 24178 (Fast Food Robotics).

    Bode is a Manufacturing Engineer at Whitney Tool Company, Inc. in Bedford where he creates and maintains process and technical documentation like drawings, routers, and bill of materials.

    …is a founding club mentor and coach for the FLL team 44949 Robotillers.

    Aaron is also a Tool and Die Maker at the Bedford Powertrain Plant for GM.

  • Kasie Wagner

    A founding mentor with her husband, Aaron, and fellow mentor to the FLL team 44949 The Robotillers.

  • Jackson Vidlund

    A Hoosier transplant from the upper peninsula of Michigan. He got roped into mentoring an FLL team for the 2024-25 season when Tyson asked for help with their Innovation Project.

    With his training in Chemical Engineering, he works at USG in Shoals.

As a 4-H Club, the above staff of Superior STEAM are approved volunteers through Purdue University's Lawrence County 4-H Extension office.
